Lander University regularly surveys students, alumni, faculty, and staff. The results from these surveys are used for strategic planning, evaluation, and decision making.

NSSE Survey

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) obtains information from hundreds of four-year colleges and universities nationwide about student participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development. The results provide an estimate of how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college.

Lander uses the data to identify aspects of the undergraduate experience inside and outside the classroom that can be improved through changes in policies and practices more consistent with good practices in undergraduate education.

Lander University follows its own internal assessment and reporting cycle that can be found in the Master Schedule for Assessment (PDF).

Results of administering the NSSE at Lander:

Reports

(All results are presented separately for first-year students and seniors)

  • Lander's Snapshot Report
A concise collection of key findings from Lander's 2018 NSSE administration.
  • Engagement Indicators
By combining responses to related NSSE questions, each EI offers valuable information about a distinct aspect of student engagement. Ten indicators, based on three to eight survey questions each (a total of 47 survey questions), are organized into four broad themes (Academic Challenge, Learning with Peers, Experience with Faculty, and Campus Environment).
  • High-Impact Practices
By combining responses to related NSSE questions, each EI offers valuable information about a distinct aspect of student engagement. Ten indicators, based on three to eight survey questions each (a total of 47 survey questions), are organized into four broad themes (Academic Challenge, Learning with Peers, Experience with Faculty, and Campus Environment). NSSE asked students about their participation in six HIPs: Service Learning, Learning Community, Research with Faculty, Internship or Field Experience, Study Abroad, and Culminating Senior Experience.
  • Frequencies and Statistical Comparisons
The Frequencies and Statistical Comparisons report presents item-by-item student responses and statistical comparisons that allow you to examine patterns of similarity and difference between Lander students and those at our comparison group institutions.
  • Multi-Year Report (2013, 2016, and 2019)
This report presents year-to-year results for Engagement Indicators (EIs), High-Impact Practices (HIPs), and key academic challenge items to illustrate patterns of change or stability.
  • Topical Module: First-Year Experiences and Senior Transitions
This module includes a set of items only for first-year students and a set only for seniors. The first-year items focus on academic perseverance, help-seeking behaviors, and institutional commitment, while the senior items explore post-graduation plans, links between the academic major and future plans, and confidence with skills developed during college.
