Over the years Greenwood-Lander Performing Arts has maintained a tradition of broadening horizons for young minds through the offering of professional theatrical and musical productions. In the same vein, this year the organization took part in a collaboration with Lander University's Department of Art that provided practical experience for university graphic design students.
Coordinated by GLPA executive director Myra Shaffer and Lander assistant professor of art Jim Slagle, the project revolved around the design of the 2010-11 GLPA brochure. Three Lander graphic design students had an opportunity to create GLPA brochures, each of which was submitted to GLPA staff for review. One design was selected to promote the upcoming GLPA season.
The design selected for the GLPA brochure was created by Emily Berry of Inman, a Lander senior majoring in visual arts. During a small ceremony in August, Shaffer presented Berry with the first award granted to a Lander student for the top GLPA brochure design. Berry is also given design credit on the brochure.
"We are very appreciative of the talents of Lander students and I'm glad these talents can help further the mission of Greenwood-Lander Performing Arts," said Shaffer. "Emily's design does an excellent job representing the professional caliber of entertainment that GLPA brings to the area."
Tickets are currently on sale for the the 64th GLPA season titled 'Music From Around the World." Details for the upcoming roster are available at the organization's website, www.greenwoodlanderperformingarts.com.
Season ticket prices for the GLPA five-concert series are: $165 for adults; $150 for seniors (65 or older) and Lander faculty and staff; and $85 for youth (18 and younger). Season ticket holders or donors of at least $100 are being invited to attend preshow dinners, which will be served before all evening performances in the lobby on the upper level of the Cultural Center, near the auditorium entrance. Tickets are $20, payable in advance, and include dinner, beverage, dessert and tip.
