Lander University has set a goal of raising $2 million for the Lander Loyalty Fund during the 2010-2011 academic year. Ralph Patterson, vice president for University Advancement and executive director of The Lander Foundation, said, "Our alumni and friends need to know that every dollar donated to the Loyalty Fund goes directly to students in the form of scholarships, academic programs, athletics and student services."
Patterson also cited a need for financial support for the Jeff May Complex for recreation, wellness, and sports and Lander's Equestrian Center. "These two important projects will transform Lander and the face of Greenwood forever."
Patterson said the university ended its fiscal year June 30 in a sound financial position despite a challenging economic environment. He cited a 21 percent cut in state funding this year and a 57 percent overall reduction in the last three years.
Alumni Association president Don Scott '75 encouraged Lander alumni to improve the percentage of donor participation by each graduating class. "We need to support all of the phenomenal things going on at Lander, and I cannot think of a better way to help than to improve alumni support for the Loyalty Fund."
