Lander University held an orientation meeting today for representatives of South Carolina technical colleges that are participating in the Bridge Program, which is designed to make it easier for students to transfer to Lander.
Gavin Bethea, Lander's Bridge coordinator, opened with an overview explaining the benefits of the program. He was followed by the deans of Lander's four colleges, who provided information about the colleges and the majors that are offered. Participants were also taken on a tour of the campus, including residence halls.
Bethea said the university collaborated with the South Carolina State Technical College System to create the program. He explained that after successfully completing 30 semester hours at one of the 16 technical colleges included in the program, and meeting grade point average requirements, students will be guaranteed admission to Lander as sophomores and receive priority registration with no additional application fee.
To ensure a smooth transition to Lander, the program will provide advising and academic support to students, including an online Bridge guide to identify each course's transferability to Lander and courses that are required for a major. The guide and appropriate forms are available at www.lander.edu/bridge.
Students can also work one-on-one with advisers and staff from the technical colleges and Lander.
