The teams from Lander University and The Citadel tied for fifth place among the 11 colleges and universities who competed in the annual quiz bowl, one of the main attractions of the South Carolina Psychological Association's Academic Day hosted by Lander on Nov. 9.
Teams of students faced off in two rounds answering five questions in each of seven psychology categories. Points were awarded for correct answers and the team with the highest point total at the end of the competition was declared the winner.
First place went to Furman University's entry with College of Charleston finishing second and Converse College, third.
The other schools represented in the competition were Anderson University, Coker College, Francis Marion University, Newberry College, The University of South Carolina Aiken and USC Beaufort.
Academic Day is an annual conference that also includes prominent speakers from the field of psychology, and breakout sessions for both students and faculty members. This was the second year in a row that Lander hosted the event.
Lander associate professor of psychology Dr. Jonathan Bassett, who is secretary of the S.C. Psychological Association, chaired the Academic Day Committee and served a moderator of the quiz bowl.
