Riders from 14 colleges and universities and two alumni divisions competed when Lander University's Equestrian Center hosted its second annual Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event on Nov. 19. The schools are in IHSA Zone 5, Region 2. The two-day show featured 19 different competitive events.
On Saturday, the University of South Carolina was the high point team, finishing first with Lander in fourth place. The team from Berry College in Georgia finished first in Sunday's competition with Lander close behind in second place.
Ellison Poston of Hodges was the high point individual rider on Sunday with 233 points. She finished first in both the novice equitation and novice over fences classes.
Three other Lander riders recorded first place finishes: Sidney Broussard, of Travelers Rest, in walk/trot; Jordan Moureau, of Greenwood, beginner walk/trot/canter, and Whitney Malcolm, of Columbia, novice equitation.
Other Lander riders who competed and finished sixth or higher in the various classes on Saturday and Sunday were Anastacia George, of Auburn, Ala.; Grace McShane, of Johns Island; Meredith Brock, of Taylors; Erin Bidwell, of Honea Path; Lori Ballentine, of Greenwood; Josie Burden, of Saluda; and Kathryn Walker, of Pendleton.
Overall, Lander equestrians earned five first place ribbons, nine for second place, three each for third and fourth, six for fifth place and two for sixth place.
