Seven Lander University students recently competed for the title of Miss Lander University 2011. During the pageant, sponsored by the Music Educators National Conference, contestants were judged on their performance in an interview session and competitions in talent, casual wear and formal wear. The title of Miss Lander University 2011 went to sophomore Torah Ashanti Speach of Greenwood, center, the daughter of Shirley, Brooks and Gonza Bryant. She is a business administration major with emphasis in marketing/management. Sponsored by the Lander Dance and Cheer team, Speach recited a poem, "Courage" by Fion Lim, as her talent. Junior computer information systems major Brittnii Nicole Watts of Sumter, right, was selected as first runner-up. Watts, the daughter of Dr. Lynwood and Terri Watts, was sponsored by Lander's student chapter of People to People International. For her talent, Watts clogged to the Michael Jackson hit, "Bad." Amber Bree Shirley of Starr, a business administration major with emphasis in health care management, placed second runner-up. She is the daughter of Franky and Sandra White and Bob and Robin Shirley. Sponsored by the Lander Dance and Cheer team, Shirley performed a jazz dance routine to the Broadway classic, "Life of the Party."
