Greenwood Lander Performing Arts' Outreach program has gotten a boost, in the form of a $2,000 donation by the Greenwood Woman's Club.
The gift was made possible by last year's highly successful Fall Tour of Homes, as were the woman's club's recent donations to Greenwood Community Theatre, The Museum and the Arts Center of Greenwood.
"We felt like this was part of our charter, our purpose," said GWC Treasurer Dell Ray Schulze.
With the donation, club members hope to "introduce young people to the opportunities the arts provide for them," said GWC president and GLPA volunteer Janice Elliott.
Outreach program director Jackie Counts, who said that 6,700 children attended Outreach performances last year, said she appreciates the woman's club's generosity.
"This donation allows us to provide hundreds of schoolchildren the opportunity to experience the diverse world of the performing arts by bringing high quality music, dance and theatre performances to our stage," she said.
"Because of this donation," she added, "we are also able to offer scholarships to students who otherwise wouldn't be able to attend."
One of the Outreach program's main goals, Counts said, "is to promote arts education through live, professional cultural experiences, and we want to provide this opportunity for as many schoolchildren as possible."
