Paul Crutcher, broadcast and emerging media specialist at Lander University, left, receives the Second Annual Mary Frances Poole Alston Award from university president Daniel Ball. Crutcher is also the manager of XLR, Lander's radio station, and host of his own daily show on the station. SCETV personality Rowland P. Alston created the award to honor his grandmother who was a 1914 Lander graduate. The recipient must provide visibility for Lander throughout the state of South Carolina, the nation and the world. Ball noted that Crutcher and XLR meet the requirement since the station's programming is broadcast on Live365, the Internet radio network.
