Lander University will hold its annual Eleanor Shiflet Teal Scholarship Banquet on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Finis Horne Arena in the university's Athletics Center.
The event gives students a chance to meet the donors who made their Lander scholarships possible.
There will be two speakers. One will be Andi Mills, of Honea Path, a non-traditional student in her early 60s who is majoring in English with a professional writing emphasis, and a minor in Spanish.
Joining Mills at the speaker's podium will be Jerry Wilson, professor emeritus of physics at Lander, who is a scholarship donor. In 1995, he established The Jerry D. Wilson Scholarship for Excellence in Science, and while it is not a requirement, recipients are encouraged to consider establishing Lander scholarships when they are able.
Ralph Patterson vice president for University Advancement and executive director of The Lander Foundation, said, "The students who benefit from financial support provided by The Lander Foundation will have a chance to thank donors, while Jerry Wilson will represent the many current or retired Lander faculty who have established scholarships.
Patterson added, "The support of our past, current and future donors has helped and will continue to make a college education affordable for thousands of Lander students."
