Lander University's equestrian team will host an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competitive event on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27 and 28, at the Equestrian Center on Hwy. 72/221. Shows will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday. They are free and open to the public. This will be the third year Lander has been the site of the competition.
Equestrian coach Mary Weaver said teams in the hunt seat competition will represent nine of the 11 colleges and universities in South Carolina and Georgia that are in IHSA's newly realigned Zone 5, Region 2. Besides Lander, the schools are: Clemson University; College of Charleston; Converse College; Furman University; Georgia Southern University; University of South Carolina (USC); USC-Aiken and Wesleyan College. The other schools in the region are USC-Beaufort and Mercer University.
Weaver said Lander's team has 29 hunt seat and western riders and 18 of them will participate in the competition that will feature 180 rides each day.
The Lander riders opened their 2012-13 season on Sept. 29 in a IHSA hunt seat event at Georgia Southern where the team finished seventh.
