Lander University is preparing to open an art exhibit featuring works by graduates of the university's Master of Arts in Teaching in art education program. The exhibit, which will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, June 21, will be on display in Lander's Monsanto Gallery through Aug. 1.
Artists include Adri Diaz, Anne McKinney, Corey Benjamin, Patro Ulmer, Paul Abrahamsen and Winston Cely.
Art Professor Emeritus Dr. Linda Neely described the show as "off-the-wall and awesomely 3-D." It includes raku-fired clay containers and functional wood vessels with ceramic drawers; fiber weavings; psychological self-portraits; steel that maintains its space and steel that moves in space, sculptural books and ceramic toys, and more.
Neely said the artists were in the final class she taught at Lander before she
retired in 2012. She added, "Since then, they have grown into even more wonderful artists and educators, joining the next generation of excellent art teachers."
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
