Members of the Greenwood Lander Performing Arts (GLPA) board of directors gathered at Lander on May 6 for the organization's annual meeting.
Executive director Cecily Ferguson reported that GLPA enjoyed another successful season in 2012-2013 with five performances. She added that there were five Outreach programs that provided thousands of students from Lakelands schools with cultural entertainment.
Ferguson said arrangements have been made for another five shows during the coming season, beginning in October, plus eight Outreach performances.
Dave Lorenzatti, of McCormick, president of the GLPA board, thanked Ferguson and Outreach coordinator Jackie Counts for all their hard work during the year. He said, "They are the engine that keeps the organization running smoothly."
On July 1, Lorenzatti will conclude a two-year term as president. He described his association with GLPA as one of the most gratifying volunteer positions he had held.
He also introduced the board officers for the 2013-2014 season.
Dr. Robert Kelley, associate professor of music at Lander, will serve as president; Matt Braaten, director of technology integration in Lander's Office of Academic Affairs, becomes vice president/president-elect; Tom Woods, of Greenwood, accepted a second term as secretary, and Michael Mlinar, business administration instructor in the university's School of Management, will be the new treasurer.
Mlinar will take over from George Brockenbrough, of Greenwood, who is stepping down as treasurer, a position he has held for several years. Lorenzatti thanked Brockenbrough for the many years he has been associated with GLPA and presented him an award expressing the organization's appreciation.
Ferguson presented an Executive Director's Award to Cliff Fagan, of Greenwood, citing him for his devotion to GLPA as a volunteer. "He helps us wherever and whenever we need him," she said.
Two new members were welcomed to the board: Sadie Erwin, of Greenwood, executive assistant to Lander president Daniel Ball; and Amber Scates, a teacher at W.E. Parker Elementary School in Edgefield. As treasurer, Mlinar is also a board member.
