Lander University students Kayla Frost, of Greenwood, and Oscar Reyes, of Greenville, working with assistant professor of art Doug McAbee, recently defeated McAbee's advanced sculpture students in a "deathmatch." The contest required the two teams to design, build and install sculptures in a 12-hour period. Facebook users determined the winners, after photos of the entries were posted online. Frost and Reyes are shown to the right of the winning sculpture, brandishing their trophy. Behind them is McAbee, and behind McAbee is advanced sculpture student K.J. Campbell, of Camden. At left, from front to back, are advanced sculpture students Ashley Bush, of Greenville, Devin Barbour, of Laurens, and Sean Thrasher, of Anderson. Not pictured are advanced sculpture students Shawndrea Caldwell, of Newberry, and Andrew Gordon, of Columbia.
