Lander University has announced four appointments to the Board of Trustees of The Lander Foundation. The foundation was created in 1948 and, in 1973, it was restructured as an independent, nonprofit organization responsible for receiving, managing and investing gifts for Lander's welfare. The new appointees are:
Dr. Lorraine Angelino, of Greenwood, senior operational analyst for Self Regional Healthcare's Department of Information Technology. She is a graduate of the University of South Florida with degrees in engineering technology and management information systems, and a master of business administration. She has a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Clemson University and a health care management certificate from Lander (HCMT). Angelino has taught Lander's HCMT classes online and in the classroom. Active in Rotary International, she is the current assistant regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator for Zone 33. She is also a member of Lander's Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Dr. Ben Davis, of Greenwood, retired president and chief executive officer of Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood. Davis has degrees from Furman University, Christian Bible College and North Greenville College. The former owner/operator of three radio stations and a newspaper, he also served as mayor of Fountain Inn for 12 years. He is an ordained Baptist minister and has been president of Baptist Childcare Executives and served on the board of the S.C. Association of Children's Homes. In 2014, before he retired, Davis received the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian award.
Jim Nichols Jr., of Easley, project manager of Ridgeline Construction Group in Greenville. He is president of Lander's Alumni Association and Tower Club Upstate and joins the foundation board as the association's representative. A 1995 Lander graduate with a degree in exercise science, he is also a member of Easley First Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon.
Nancy Scott,of Greenwood, former chair of Lander's Faculty/Staff Development Committee. She has a business degree from David Lipscomb University. She has been Active in local garden clubs, she has been president of the Ivy and Morning Glory clubs. She has also served as the Self Regional Foundation ball chair and president of the McKissick Study Club.
The new appointees join current Lander Foundation board members: Stephen Baggett Jr.; David Buckshorn; Wayne Carstens; A.R. Charnes; Emmett Davis Jr.; Bill Dixon; Alvin Green; Jeff Humphrey; Doug Kauffmann; Theo Lane; and Wes McAllister, who was re-elected board president for 2015-16.
Also serving as trustees are Brent Parris; John Patrick; John Pillman; Lee Prather; Don Scott, board vice president; Heather Simmons-Jones; Kirk Smith; Jan Smoke; Jerry Stevens; Ferol Stroud; Kerry Trapnell; and Gerald Witt.
Dr. Renee Love, dean of Lander's College of Arts and Humanities and professor of physics Paige Ouzts are faculty appointees to the board. David Mash, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs; and Gary McCombs, vice president for Business and Administration, represent the Lander administration, while Jack Lawrence, chair of the Lander Board of Trustees and member Holly Bracknell are appointees of that board.
Ralph Patterson, Lander's vice president for University Advancement is the foundation's executive director.
