Lander University is preparing to roll out the red carpet, welcoming alumni back to campus for Homecoming Week 2015, Feb. 2-7.
The week-long celebration is packed with daily events open to alumni, students, faculty and staff, and any group or team formed to compete in one of several homecoming activities.
One of the highlights of the week will be the annual Homecoming Soapbox Derby, on Friday, Feb. 6. At 3 p.m., custom-built soapbox cars will be put on display for judging. Then, teams will push the cars to the top of Willson Street, the starting point for the race, which traditionally draws a large crowd of spectators.
Other activities during the week will include the selection of the homecoming queen and king; spirit night, featuring the women's and men's basketball teams facing teams from Francis Marion University; and a field day with a list of competitive events.
The celebration will be capped by Homecoming Weekend with a golf outing, basketball games and social events.
