Lander Readies Homecoming Weekend Activities to Welcome Alumni Back to Campus

Lander University alumni are being invited to revisit the '90s by turning out for the university's annual homecoming celebration Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7.

The theme of the weekend get-together is "Saved by the Bell Tower," a reference to Laura Lander Hall's bell tower, which is a historical university landmark.

Myra Greene, director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving, said a number of activities are planned, including an alumni golf outing on Friday, at Greenwood Country Club. For a fee of $60, golfers will receive a round of golf, including a golf cart, and a box lunch. Golf outing sign-ups can be arranged by contacting Ralph Patterson, vice president for University Advancement, at 864-388-8350 or by e-mail at rpatterson@lander.edu.

Alumni can take in a Friday afternoon baseball game when Lander hosts North Greenville University at Dolny Stadium in the Jeff May Recreation, Wellness and Sports Complex.

Greene said alumni will be invited to attend a social at Cambridge Hall Friday evening, sponsored by the Tower Club-Greenwood and Young Alumni Council.

Saturday events will include a tailgating party and cookout before the Lander women's and men's basketball games against teams from the University of South Carolina Aiken. And more time will be set aside for informal socializing that evening.

Alumni can register for homecoming by contacting the Alumni Affairs Office at 864-388-8351.

The weekend is the culmination of homecoming week, beginning Monday, Feb. 2, which offers a number of events open to all Lander students, faculty and staff, including student clubs, organizations and any "group" or "team" formed solely for the purpose of competing in a homecoming activity.
