Lander University music students enrolled in the Department of Music's opera workshop will appear in a concert titled "Should I Stay, or Should I Go," on Tuesday, April 19, in the university's Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center auditorium.
Dr. Lila Noonkester, associate music professor and music department chair, is the director of the event. She said, "The overriding theme for the program is about staying in a relationship or letting go, about making a commitment or giving up, about advancing or retreating." She added that, during the performance, the audience will discover which characters have decided to stay the course and which think it is best to go.
The five scenes will be sung in English. They include selections from "Le Nozze di Figaro," "Cosi Fan Tutti" and "Die Zauberflote" by Mozart; "Trouble in Tahiti" by Leonard Bernstein and "Dialogues des Carmelites" by Poulenc.
The concert will feature 14 Lander students, some of whom will perform in more than one selection. Lander music lecturer Amy Blackwood will provide piano accompaniment.
The concert, which begins at 8 p.m., is free and open to the public.
