Lander University's Department of Music will present a faculty recital featuring pianist Amy Blackwood and cellist Dr. Richard Thomas on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m. The performance will be held in the Barksdale Recital Hall in Lander's Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center.
The Lander music department's staff accompanist since 2011, Blackwood has a master's degree in accompanying and chamber music from the University of North Carolina (UNC)-Greensboro. She also served as a collaborative pianist on the staffs of Interlochen Summer Arts Camp and at the Summer Vocal Arts program at the UNC School of the Arts.
Thomas is an associate professor of music at Presbyterian College and an adjunct cello instructor at Lander. He received a doctorate in music from the University of South Carolina, and is a former member of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia, in Bogotá, Colombia, and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, in the Dominican Republic.
Blackwood and Thomas will perform German and Russian sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and Dmitri Shostakovich, and works by other composers.
The concert is free and open to the public.
