Lander University is making plans for its annual Homecoming Week, Feb. 15-20, with a schedule of activities ranging from golf to a homecoming queen and king contest, a soapbox car race, social events and more.
Homecoming activities are open to all Lander students, faculty and staff including student clubs, organizations and any "group" or "team" formed to take part in a competitive activity.
The Soapbox car judging and parade will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, in front of the Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) Center, with the actual Soapbox race at 4:30pm on Willson Street.
Myra Greene, director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving, said the annual Homecoming Golf Outing will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, at Greenwood Country Club. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by lunch and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The fee of $60 pays for golf, lunch, a small gift and beverages.
Ralph Patterson, vice president for University Advancement, asks that golfers contact him at 864-388-8350 as soon as possible to reserve a tee time.
Other alumni homecoming events will include a social gathering from 7-9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19, at the Alumni Center, followed by a welcome back party at Sports Break.
Saturday, Feb. 20, will be highlighted by an Alumni Hustle for Habitat 5K race beginning at the PEES Center at 8:30 a.m. Entry fee is $10 for students, faculty and staff and $20 for others. There will be a tailgating party at the Sproles Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m., and women's and men's basketball games in the Finis Horne Arena at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
