Four Greenwood restaurants will participate in a special promotion during Lander University's Homecoming Week to help fund a Habitat for Humanity project at Lander. Each of the restaurants has agreed to donate 10 percent of what each customer spends on specific days.
Polo's at 328 Main St., and T.W. Boons, at 405 Main St., will make donations based on sales Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20. Howard's on Main, 330 Main St., will donate a portion of what diners spend on Friday, and Montague's, at 115 Hampton St., will contribute based on Saturday sales. In order for the donation to be made, customers should mention "Dining for Habitat" when paying for the meal.
The Lander Habitat chapter is sponsoring what it's calling Hustle for Habitat 5K Fun Run, on Saturday, Feb. 20. The entry fee for the run, which starts at 8:30 a.m. near Lander's Finis Horne Arena, is $20. There is still time to sign up for the event.
The members of Lander's Habitat for Humanity chapter plan to build a single-family home on campus, beginning Feb. 25. When the outer shell of the house is completed, it will be moved to Kirksey Forest, off Marshall Rd., where it will be permanently located. The eventual occupants of the house will assist volunteers with the interior work.
After the decision was made to form the Lander Habitat chapter, a call went out for volunteers, and a large number of students, faculty, staff and others came forward to donate their time for the project.
