Heidi Cruz, wife of Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz, visited the Lander University campus today, five days before the South Carolina Republican primary.
Mrs. Cruz met with members of the university's senior staff, then spent time speaking to and shaking hands with students, faculty and staff at a gathering in the Johnston Commons. She talked about the importance of the presidential election and her efforts to tell people who Ted Cruz is and what he stands for.
She was accompanied by Third District Congressman Jeff Duncan and his wife, Melody. Duncan has endorsed Cruz for president.
University president Dr. Richard Cosentino told Mrs. Cruz, "We are thrilled to have you visit."
She said she was gratified by the outpouring of students and others who welcomed her. Mrs. Cruz is on a leave of absence from her job as a Goldman Sachs executive to work in her husband's campaign.
