Over $2,400 was raised through efforts by participants in Lander University's CrossFit and Campus Recreation programs in observance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The money was raised on Saturday, Oct. 29, during "Barbells for Boobs," an event that drew 25 participants who competed in teams of two and performed a combination of CrossFit workouts, including 1,000-meter rowing, thrusters, pull-ups, and clean-and-jerk weightlifting.
Funds support the national Barbells for Boobs organization, a nonprofit breast cancer awareness organization committed to providing mammograms for low-income and uninsured women and men who need screening and diagnostic procedures in the prevention of breast cancer.
Donations will continue to be accepted for Lander's team through the end of the year and can be made online.
