Lander University invites the public to attend and enjoy its annual Arbor Day celebration on Friday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Moran Assembly Plaza Courtyard.
Speakers for the event include Dr. Andrew Schwendemann, assistant professor of biology at Lander and president of the university's Arboretum Committee; and JoAnn Purkerson, also a member of the Arboretum Committee.
A weeping yellowwood tree will be planted during the celebration. Growing to a height of 40-50 feet, weeping yellowwoods are rarely seen in the wild and are seldom planted in yards.
"The yellowwood should thrive here should fit that area well. In the spring, it will produce clusters of hanging, white flowers. Typically, the older these trees get, the more flowers they will produce each spring," explained Schwendemann.
