Renowned artist and painter Tom Dimond took part in an opening reception for an exhibit of his works in Lander University's Monsanto Art Gallery on Thursday, Sept. 8.
The exhibition will continue to be displayed in the gallery through Sept. 30. The Monsanto Art Gallery is located in Lander's Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center and is open Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Roughly 75 reception guests enjoyed looking at the artwork and hearing directly from the artist about his inspiration for the pieces.
"These works are meant to be suggestive of urban walls," said Dimond. "The pieces (in this exhibit) are from a series that I began about two years ago exploring various techniques and materials that I have been layering together and combining with a mixture of mediums."
The materials used to create these works of art include watercolors, acrylic monoprints on Japanese papers, inkjet transfers of drawings, comic pages and gum arabic.
