Lander University students gathered in the Grier Student Center on Tuesday, Nov. 12, for "Coffee and Conversation" on the potential health hazards associated with vaping, a popular social trend that has received high levels of national attention in recent months.
The event was sponsored by Lander's Wellness Center, as part of a larger series entitled "The Great Lander Vapeout," which aims to address vaping among students on college campuses.
"Vaping" is the act of inhaling vapor produced by electronic cigarettes, vaporizers and other similar devices. Popularity of these devices has risen drastically among young people in the last five years. According to a report from the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General of the United States, the use of e-cigarettes is now higher among students than with adults.
Professionals from Self Regional Healthcare's Montgomery Center, and Advanced Pulmonology and Associates were on hand to discuss the topic with students and answer questions.
Lander University's Wellness Center offers a variety of health care services, programs and information resources to help students maintain optimal emotional and physical health in order to reduce or eliminate any barriers to their personal and professional growth.
