Lander to Bring Dual Enrollment Information Sessions to EHS on March 12, GHS on March 17 and 19

High school students in Greenwood School District 50 will have the opportunity to learn more about Lander University's Dual Enrollment Program during information sessions in March.

Shelby Dominick Reed, director of Special Cohort Outreach & Bridge Programs at Lander, will meet with interested students during these sessions:

  • Thursday, March 12, Emerald High School: EHS library beginning at 10 a.m., or by appointment;
  • Tuesday, March 17, and Thursday, March 19, Greenwood High School: GHS guidance office conference room beginning at 11:30 a.m. and continuing through the school's three lunch periods, or by appointment.

Students may select traditional lecture or online courses. "Lander University's Dual Enrollment courses are highly individualized to a student's academic and long-term career goals," Reed said. "Students have access to flexible classes that are affordable, coupled with the resources of a public, four-year university."

At $100 per credit hour, students can earn college credit at a fraction of the cost of college tuition. Lander's admissions staff work with students on the transfer of credits to public and private colleges and universities in South Carolina, as well as academic institutions in other states, she said.

Dual enrollment students can utilize the resources available to other Lander students, such as free tutoring, as well as access to the writing lab, athletic events, swimming pool and Wellness Center. "We have a wealth of opportunities for our Dual Enrollment students," Reed said.

The breadth of courses ranges from traditional English, mathematics and history classes to lab sciences, psychology, humanities and fine arts.

"High school graduates who have earned college credits get a 'jump start' on their academic future," said Reed. "Dual enrollment credits help students take advantage of study abroad or co-op learning programs during college because they have more flexible academic schedules. These opportunities can enhance a student's academic experience."

To participate in Lander's Dual Enrollment Program, students must have a 3.5 GPA and 900 SAT/17 ACT score, along with a recommendation from their high school principal or guidance counselor.
