Imagine that you are a college student, and your laptop stops working. Unable to afford repairs, you fear that you may have to withdraw from your classes because the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in online learning for students around the nation.
A Lander University nursing major faced this very problem. But thanks to the COVID-19 Student Crisis Fund, she was able to get her laptop computer repaired and continue her studies.
On Tuesday, May 5, The Lander Foundation will sponsor the Lander Day of Giving to benefit the Student Crisis Fund. The fundraiser is part of Giving Tuesday Now, a global day of philanthropy initiated by businesses, foundations, nonprofit organizations and communities around the world, said Mike Worley, vice president for University Advancement and executive director of The Lander Foundation.
"The needs for young and old alike are unprecedented because of the pandemic," he said. "Giving Tuesday Now will unite people from all walks of life through the power of generosity and compassion."
Lander alumnus Terrell Tyler, creator and host of Business Talk Library, explains the special event in a YouTube video. "The Lander Day of Caring is all about our students, and some of our students are in need of financial support."
The fund is making "a big difference" in the lives of many young people who are facing overwhelming challenges to continue their academic careers, he said.
