Lander University's College of Business will offer three new degree programs beginning in the fall.
In addition to its undergraduate programs in management/marketing, accounting, financial services and healthcare management, the college will now offer bachelor of science programs in sports management, hospitality management, and information technology management.
All degree programs will be offered on Lander's main campus, at its satellite campus at the University Center Greenville, and 100 percent online.
The new programs will prepare students for successful careers within the sports, hospitality, and computer systems administration industries, as well as the service sector in general. A bachelor's degree in these fields would also prepare students for numerous options in graduate education that emphasize different aspects of professional studies.
The need for the new programs can be seen in a recent report by the United States Department of Labor Statistics, which states that employment in all management-related occupations continues to exceed all other occupational categories within the state of South Carolina.
The new programs are expected to increase the number of students declaring business as their major. "It is also anticipated that some enrollments may shift from one emphasis to another based on the attractiveness and applicability of some new program emphasis to a student's plan of study."
Dr. Michael Brizek, interim dean of the College of Business, said that business faculty members "are thrilled to offer these new programs in the College of Business, and we will continue to innovate and produce career-focused programs in order to meet the future needs of industry. The introduction of these new industry-specific degree programs doubles the size of our current program offerings, and provides additional educational opportunities for all students at Lander University."
