Sophomore graphic design and business administration double major Brooke Ruhoff, of Greenwood, understands the importance of a "hands-on" education, and that's why she chose to attend Lander University. "I get the opportunity to work on projects that allow me to learn about the design process," she said, "as well as the software that I will eventually be using in the workplace."
Ruhoff is pursuing both a bachelor of design in graphic design and a bachelor of science in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and management. She aspires to utilize her unique educational experience as a graphic designer in the marketing field. "The information I'm learning is so practical and I'm able to see how it will be applied after I graduate," she said, also noting that, through the help of Lander's art faculty, she has already begun assembling her professional portfolio, with her career in mind. "I really enjoy how involved the professors are, and how helpful they are in offering advice and feedback."
When she's not in the classroom, Ruhoff is involved with student groups like the Lander University Rotaract Club, and has participated in litter clean-ups and other service projects in the Greenwood community with the organization. "Getting involved can help you meet people, and it's also really fun to be a part of organizations and events," she said.
Ruhoff credits Lander University's community oriented atmosphere with helping her come out of her shell. When asked to describe Lander University in one word, she chose the word "community."
"Being a naturally shy person, I thought it would be hard to get to know people and feel comfortable," said Ruhoff, "but at Lander, it's been so easy. All of the students and faculty members I've met are very friendly and have helped make my experience at Lander the best it can be!"
