Lander University welcomed new freshmen to campus last week through the Launch into Lander program, which provides academic and co-curricular experiences for incoming freshmen.
A large component of the week's programming involved LINK 101, a required course for all freshmen. Students met individually with academic advisors and assembled together for an introduction to the course.
"The assembly, and the semester-long course that follows it, welcomes students to the Lander community, providing a foundation of skills, knowledge and connections to prepare them for success in college and the rest of their lives," said Dr. Scott Jones, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs.
The assembly's main focus was to introduce campus resources, help first year students recognize their support systems and encourage growth mindsets and open mindedness. "Our newest Bearcats were able to meet their first-year experience [LINK 101] instructors and were able to spend quality time with their Peer Leaders, who will serve as their mentors for their first year at Lander," said Brittany Aga, director of First-Year Program and clinical assistant professor of Human Services.
"We are looking forward to continuing to work with our first year students in the classroom this week," said Aga.
