Lander University is excited to invite Bearcat families and alumni to Family Day on Saturday, March 19, from 2-8 p.m. at the Lander Athletic Complex.
“After a two year hiatus, we are so happy to have our parents and families back on campus to celebrate together,” said Matthew Gilstrap, executive director of Student Life and Engagement.
The afternoon is packed with activities for Bearcats of all ages. Beginning at 2 p.m., the lawn of the Athletic Complex will feature a Kids Zone with inflatables, face painting, a caricature artist, DIY decorating, a photobooth, mini golf and more! Local food trucks for OneLove Fusion, MacAttack and SOL GVL will be open from 3-6 p.m. for food purchases.
“This is an excellent opportunity for families, students, alumni and friends of the University to come back to Lander for a day of relaxing fun,” said Demario Watts, director of Student Life and Orientation.
Late afternoon and early evening activities include an egg hunt, family trivia and line dancing with DJ Sha. Family Day concludes with a spectacular fireworks show at 8 p.m. With the exception of food truck items, all activities are free.
Family Day began in the late 1980s, with what was originally called Parents’ Weekend. Its focus was to give parents a glimpse of college life through the eyes of their children and to get to know some of the University’s faculty, staff and administration. While Family Day has evolved through the years, the University’s commitment to fostering community among Bearcats remains strong.
