Lander University’s annual ceramics sale is a popular event, and this year’s sale was no different.
“We’ve had a great turnout,” said Professor of Art Sandy Shore. “It’s been steady all day.”
The work offered for sale is all produced by students in Shore’s ceramics classes, and the “several thousand dollars” that the sale brings in each year are paid directly to the artists.
For her students, it’s a valuable experience.
“They are learning how to sell their work,” she said.
A “major priority” of the ceramics program is “for students to develop their own aesthetic,” and that was reflected in the pieces offered for sale.
“You see lots of different colors and different styles, and that’s by design,” she said.
According to Shore, the ceramics program at Lander is getting both bigger and better. She is getting “more students who are getting to the higher levels of the program,” who are spending “enough time with the material to actually master it,” she said.
