Lander University’s 3rd Annual Music for Meals was held March 9 at the Lander Equestrian Center.
The occasion served as a fundraiser for Bear Necessities Food Pantry, a vital service that provides essential food staples to students on Lander’s campus. The event included live music and all-you-can-eat BBQ & Oysters.
Dr. Boyd Yarbrough, Lander University's vice president for Student Affairs said, “its inception in 2020 through a partnership with the Food Bank of Greenwood County, the Bear Necessities Food Pantry has been a vital resource for students.”
Yarbrough said the food pantry receives a variety of canned goods, frozen and pre-packaged foods, breads and pastries and other food items requested by students. Individual donors, churches, and area organizations also contribute to the food pantry.
Duke Energy’s Theo Lane, district manager for government and community relations, presented a check for $5,000 in support of the cause.
“After the pandemic, we realized that student needs are often overlooked when it comes to food insecurity,” Lane said during the check presentation. “We have extended our support to a number of institutions of higher learning across our region and are proud to partner with Lander University in this very important cause.”
