On September 5, The Lander Art Gallery at Lander University’s Abney Cultural Center hosted a reception for its current exhibit, "Mujer: Sanctuary," featuring artists Jorge Rojas and Siara Yazmin.
The event, sponsored by Self Regional Healthcare, provided the community with a unique opportunity to meet and engage with the artists, whose works explore the theme of women as sanctuaries.
Rojas, a native of Colombia, South America said charcoal is his favorite medium while Yazmin said, “the eight pieces I have in the exhibit focus on color and are expressed in different ways.”
Jenna Tunison, a sophomore from Lexington enjoyed the mix of styles. “One side is very dark and the other is vibrant making for an interesting contrast,” she said.
Sophomore psychology major, Scarlett Smith from Taylors, noted, “the portraits are very expressive and through the lighting you can feel the emotion.”
