One of Lander University’s oldest living alumni is approaching a major milestone.
Sarah Boazman Segars, of Laurens County, graduated from what was then Lander College in 1943, and is set to celebrate her 102nd birthday in October.
Her son, Ernie Segars, said his mother has had a “right remarkable life,” and noted that Sarah was a day student at Lander and served as president of the day students’ student government while attending.
After graduating, she began teaching all around the state of South Carolina. Sarah taught in Horry County, Columbia, Greenville, Greenwood and Laurens County – her hometown. After dedicating 40 years to teaching in the classroom, she continued to make an impact by instructing GED classes during her retirement.
