The community is invited to join the Lander University Jazz Ensemble for its first performance of the 2024-25 season Thursday, November 14, at 7 p.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium at Lander. This event is free and open to the public.
Lander University’s Jazz Ensemble is a 24 piece big band under the direction of Dr. Robert Gardiner, professor of music at Lander. The group will present an exciting program of musical selections with a variety of grooves and contrasting moods from across the history of jazz. Gardiner programmed the concert around the idea that “variety is the spice of life,” he said. The concert will include music originally recorded by a wide range of musicians, including Frank Sinatra, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Art Blakely, Stevie Wonder and the Beatles.
“Our concert will feature many freshmen and students that will be performing with us for the first time,” said Gardiner. “They are learning fast and sounding good already. Our audience will have an amazing time.”
