Lander University students recently got some face time with potential employers during a career fair.

While connecting with banking institutions, law enforcement agencies and corporate industries, students learned about internships and job opportunities and got the chance to flex their own professional muscles.

“The Career Fair is such an important event for our students,” said Courtney Carpenter, student employment coordinator for Lander University.

“It is beneficial for networking, practicing communication skills, understanding professional dress, discovering unrealized job opportunities, exploring different industries, and perhaps landing an interview or an internship. A student can meet recruiters that could otherwise be difficult to reach. While a good amount of our energies are put towards learning about professionalism and having a well written resume, a Career Fair offers actual employment opportunities.”

Nick Hodge, a junior from Aiken majoring in business administration, said he is looking to potentially get a winter internship, but knows for sure he wants a second summer internship. The career fair, he said, is a great way to establish networks and see what’s out there.

“It’s a great idea for students to take advantage of things like this because it’s right here in front of you on campus,” Hodge said.

“It doesn’t take much to just walk in and ask questions. It’s not something that’s guaranteed later on.”
