The Lander University School of Art + Design held a reception for “Triads,” a BFA/BA exhibition featuring the work of student artists Sacha Anderson, Ellie Maxwell and Arla Sease on Thursday, November 21, at Lander’s Art Gallery inside the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center. “Triads” combines works in arts, fine arts, and design in one exhibition.

Sacha ‘D Anderson graduates in December with a BDes in Graphic Design. The Belton native said his favorite medium is designing logos. “I love making logos,” Anderson stated. “I love drawing logos and playing with size to make them more effective.”

Anderson said he chose Lander for the small class sizes and hands on teaching. “I am used to smaller classes and knew more time could be spent on each person,” he said. “I don’t like too many cooks in the kitchen.”

His influences include his mom, a teacher, April Dauscha with the Greenwood Arts Center and all his Lander professors. “All of the professors here are great,” Anderson said.

Anderson has been interning with Lander’s University Relations this semester helping with graphic design projects and hopes to join an agency after graduation.

Arl Sease will earn her BFA in Visual Arts with a 3D Studio emphasis in December. Her favorite mediums are metal and fabric. For her pieces in the exhibition, Sease said she wanted to “create an environmental theme where the viewer walks into an experience and is emersed in that environment.”

Speaking of her experiences as an art student, Sease said, “the Lander art department is so amazing.” She said all her professors had been helpful. “Professor McAbee has done a lot of one-on-one to help me and Professor Snipes has helped me a lot, too.” She also noted Professor Shore’s “go-getter attitude” for inspiring her.

As for her future, the Gilbert native said she is interested in continuing her education to get her teacher certification and then teach art in high school.

Ellie Maxwell exhibited ceramic works representing her four years of work at Lander. The visual arts major says she loves environmental themes.

She chose Lander for its reputation in arts and the faculty whom she said, “have all been great and helped me grow as a visual artist.”

Maxwell hopes to open a ceramic studio in her hometown of Bamberg.
