The Office of Safety and Compliance exists to create a safe and healthful workplace for the employees and students of Lander University as well as the patrons and visitors of the campus.
The specific mission of this office is to ensure compliance with OSHA, the South Carolina Fire Marshal's Office, DHEC and other regulatory agencies. This is accomplished through an intensive inspection program, corrective actions, and employee training. The Lander University Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) was created to assist the University in recovering from natural and man-made disasters in the absence of professional emergency responders.
The CERT is available as a resource to professional emergency responders in the event of a major emergency situation on campus and to assist Greenwood County Emergency Preparedness in the event of a disaster in Greenwood County.
The Lander University Campus Emergency Response Team is comprised of volunteers from many areas on campus and includes administrators, faculty and staff. The team is open to all employees and students.

Fire and life safety inspections are conducted monthly by the Office of Safety and Compliance along with routine tests of the fire alarm systems.

Lander University has established policies for the safe operations of vehicles by employees and ensure compliance with the State Vehicle and Fleet Safety Program and policies and practices of the University.

Any employee who utilizes a golf cart or utility vehicle as a part of their job duties, or an employee or department that wishes to utilize University owned carts to transport visitors must complete the golf cart operator's training.

The occupational safety program at Lander University is based in the Physical Plant. This office provides for on-the-job safety of our employees as well as OSHA compliance. You have the right to a safe and healthful workplace.
