Title IX

"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 Implementing Regulations (20 U.S.C. § 1681 & 34 CFR 106)

Be advised that sexual harassment, including sexual violence, is a form of discrimination and is illegal. Lander's Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence Policy is reflective of such standards. Process are intended to provide avenues of recourse for those impacted, as well as ensure a fair and unbiased process for all involved parties.

If a formal complaint is against a student or employee and meets the requirements of Title IX, then the complaint will resolved in accordance with the Title IX Resolution Procedures. If it is determined that the complaint does not meet the requirements of Title IX, the Title IX coordinator will dismiss the matter for the purposes of Title IX. However, the alleged conduct may still be addressed pursuant to the Student Code of Conduct or employee resolution procedures.

 

Lander's Title IX Team

Reports of sex-based harassment, sex-based discrimination, and retaliation may be made at any time (including during non-business hours) by phone number or electronic mail address, or by mail to the office address, in-person to the Title IX Coordinator or via the Online Complainant Form. When brought to the attention of Lander University, any such discrimination will be promptly and fairly addressed and remedied by Lander University in accordance with the appropriate grievance process. The members of the Title IX Team are vetted and trained to ensure they are not biased for or against any party in a specific case, or for or against Complainants and/or Respondents. Inquiries about the application of Title IX may be referred to the Title IX Coordinator and/or to the Assistant Secretary of Civil Rights (OCR@ed.gov).

To ensure compliance and resolve complaints, the President has designated the following administrators:

  • Matthew Hammett has been designated Interim Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator has the primary responsibility for coordinating Lander University's efforts related to the intake, investigation, resolution, and implementation of supportive measures to stop, remediate, and prevent discrimination, harassment, and retaliation prohibited under this Policy. The Title IX Coordinator acts with independence and authority free from bias and conflicts of interest. The Title IX Coordinator oversees all resolutions in accordance with Policy and accompanying procedures.
  • Jalysa Green has been designated as the Title IX Deputy Coordinator for Students. She is responsible for ensuring the Policy is distributed to all new students. She is also responsible for conducting ongoing training and outreach to students and assists with resolutions and procedures in accordance with Policy.
  • London Thomas has been designated Title IX Deputy Coordinator for Employees. She is responsible for ensuring the Policy is distributed to all new employees. She is also responsible for conducting ongoing training and outreach to employees and assists with resolutions and procedures in accordance with Policy.
  • Jamie Wilson has been designated as the Title IX Deputy Coordinator for Athletic Programs and Activities. She is responsible for ensuring the Policy is distributed to all athletes. She is also responsible for conducting ongoing training and outreach to athletes/coaching staff and also assists with resolutions and procedures in accordance with Policy.

In the event that an incident involves alleged misconduct by the Title IX Coordinator, reports should be made directly to London Thomas, Director of Human Resources (lthomas@lander.edu).
