The mission of the Student Success Center is to support the overall goals of each Lander student and faculty by providing unlimited student services (included in tuition), reflecting current “best practices” in a welcoming environment.
The Office of Student Accessibility and Testing Services at Lander University is the point of initial contact for all students with disabilities. To establish reasonable accommodations, students must complete an intake form, submit the required medical documentation and meet with the Director of Student Accessibility and Testing Services to establish reasonable accommodations.
Our office works collaboratively with students, faculty, and campus partners to ensure equal access to the academic environment. All accommodations are implemented according to ADA regulations.
The Student Success Center provides approved testing accommodations based on each student’s official accommodation plan. Once approved, students must coordinate with their professors prior to each exam to schedule testing in the Student Success Center.
Students with disabilities must contact:
Anissa Lawrence, Director of Student Accessibility and Testing Services
Phone: 864-388-8915
E-mail: accessibilityservices@lander.edu or alawrence@lander.edu
The Student Success Center provides academic advising to a variety of special population students. The SSC also works with all first-year students to clarify their educational goals and offer academic and social direction.
Students who are transferring from another college need to meet with our Transfer Specialist, Katherine Dorn, in order to create a customized plan to get the most out of your transfer credits. She also provides endless resources to make the transition to Lander easier.
IIf you find yourself struggling with skills such as time management, study skills, and note-taking, the Student Success Center provides Peer Academic Coaching to help develop and fine-tune these skill sets. Our academic coaches will help you create a game plan for achieving your goals by using your strengths to help you succeed. Schedule an appointment to meet with an Academic Coach through MyWCOnline.
What is a Peer Academic Coach (PAC):
A Peer Academic Coach (PAC) is a current, academically successful undergraduate student who provides an individualized connection with specific tips and advice on how to be successful in college. These students understand that success in college is not limited to having good study skills (though they can coach you on those). It is feeling connected to campus and campus resources, finding the right balance between work and your classes, feeling organized and prepared for class, etc.
To apply to become a Peer Academic Coach, please follow these steps:
Students who are interested can serve as both an academic coach and a tutor for the SSC.
If you have any questions, contact the Student Success Center at ssc@lander.edu
We provide unlimited tutoring services for an array of courses with many subject areas. Our tutors are Lander University students who have excelled in the classes they support, are highly recommended by faculty, and have received comprehensive training facilitated by our Student Success and Intervention Coordinator. PASS
Lander’s Supplemental Instruction program, Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS), is offered for statistically high DFW and high enrollment courses. Structured to encourage group collaboration, this program provides a weekly review session for the courses involved. The PASS Leader, who doubles as a tutor, works with the faculty to determine which topics should be covered more in-depth and then creates review materials such as review games, practice tests, etc., for each session.
Find out about placement testing requirements and information to prepare you.
Please note these tests are not administered in the Student Success Center.
