Lander University's Spanish program emphasizes language acquisition and the study of Hispanic cultures.

As a Spanish major, you will gain proficiency in reading, listening, writing and speaking the language. By the time you graduate, you will be able to converse with native speakers on a variety of topics, such as sports, cinema, art, and even politics and religion. With a Spanish degree, you will have a variety of career options, from working as a translator, interpreter, or teacher to working in the fields of business, communication, public relations, government agencies or non-profits.

One of the best ways to become fluent in a language and a culture is to live in that culture for an extended period of time. Spanish majors are encouraged to study in a Spanish-speaking country and thus gain first-hand experience participating in everyday life in another culture. Through its affiliation with Academic Studies Abroad, Lander offers home-stay programs in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Spain.

In addition to normal coursework, students with an advanced level of Spanish may choose to take part in an internship overseas. The Financial Aid Office at Lander works closely with students to help make this opportunity available.
