In the event of a bomb threat, take the following actions:
- Remain calm.
- Keep the caller on the line as long as possible
- Listen carefully for pertinent information such as gender, background noises, and the callers speech pattern, accent, or speech impediments.
- Ask the caller the following questions:
- Where is the bomb located?
- What does the bomb look like?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- What will cause the bomb to explode?
- Who placed the bomb?
- GET AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE
- Try to get the caller's name
- Find out if the caller is an employee or student
- Find out the caller's location
- Write down the exact words spoken by the caller and the general attitude of the caller.
- Call University Police immediately at 388-8222 or 8911.
Suspicious Packages
If you find a suspicious package, take the following actions:
- All suspicious packages and bomb threats must be treated as a serious matter.
- All suspicious packages and bomb threats will be considered a real threat until proven otherwise.
- Remain calm if a suspicious object or potential bomb is discovered.
- DO NOT HANDLE THE OBJECT
- CLEAR THE AREA
- Call University police at 388-8222 or 8911 immediately.
- Proper authorities will determine if building evacuation is necessary.
- Do not use cell phones, radios or other wireless devices.
- Any employee who has any direct contact with the package should wash their exposed skin with soap and water immediately after reaching a place of safety.
