Campus Engagement Awards

The purpose of this award is to recognize a Lander University man and woman for their significant involvement in co-curricular activities, both on campus as well as in the community during the current academic year.

• The recipient must have completed 60 hours prior to the spring semester (must be junior or senior status) and may not have previously received this award.
• The recipient must have contributed to the success of one or more co-curricular activities during the current year, as demonstrated by enthusiasm, initiative, love for Lander University, and encouragement and support of others.

Complete the Samuel and Laura Lander Man and Woman of the Year Award nomination form

The purpose of this award is to recognize two Lander University Greek leaders who have contributed to the Greek community while exhibiting the characteristics of the values of Greek life including scholarship, brotherhood/sisterhood, leadership, and community service during the current academic year.

• The recipient must have completed 60 hours prior to the spring semester (must be junior or senior status) and may not have previously received this award.
• The recipient must be a member of one of the chapters of IFC, NPC or NPHC.

This award is presented to a select group of seniors who have demonstrated outstanding involvement with campus life and extracurricular activities and who, through this service, have exemplified a commitment to the positive enhancement to the lander campus. Recipients' names are added to the Hall of Leaders wall in the Grier Student center. Recipients are only eligible to receive this award one time and must be in good standing with the university. Each organization is asked to submit nominees should meet the following criteria: 

• Gives selflessly of time and leadership to the organization
• Makes a significant contribution to the campus community
• Encourages and motivates others in the organization

This award is named after Betty Williams, a Lander College graduate and former Lander Librarian. Mrs. Williams continues to volunteer to assist the Lander community throughout the years. This award is presented to students who, through their behind-the-scenes involvement in student life, and exemplifies a commitment to enhancing Lander campus life. All nominees should be in good standing with the university.

This award is named for James "Curtis" Harkness. He was a Lander graduate, captain of the 1982-84 men's basketball team and began his career in Student Affairs at Lander. His commitment to developing diversity programs and trainings had a positive influence of many other. This award is given to recognize the junior or senior who has typified model citizenship, outstanding student leadership, high academic achievement, and has been the most effective in advancing the concerns of multicultural students. All nominees should be in good standing with the university.

The purpose of this award is to recognize a Lander University faculty or staff member for their significant voluntary involvement in co-curricular activities, and for advising, guiding and showing encouragement and support of the organization and its members during the current academic year.

• The nominating person or group must complete a candidate form for the person they are nominating, including a statement as to the reasons s/he should be given this award. If advising this organization is a part of the faculty's or staff's job duties, they may not be nominated.
• The recipient may not have received this award in the past two years.

Complete the Lander University Organization Advisor of the Year Award nomination form

The purpose of this award is presented to the recognized student organization, which, through its activities and projects, has had the most significant positive influence on Lander and the surrounding community. This award is based on the number and quality of campus events held, amount of community service performed, involvement with campus events, and initiatives to further advance the education of Lander students beyond the classroom.

• The organization must be a registered organization through the Office of Student Activities.
• The organization and its members should be visible on campus.
• The organization should have contributed to the total education of Lander students.
• The organization must have provided at least one program or event open to the entire college community during the year nominated.
• The organization must have completed at least one type of campus or community service project that is documented with the Office of Student Activities by filling out a community service request and reflection. Members should be involved in other aspects of campus life.
• The organization must not have won this award in the past two years.

Complete the Lander University Student Organization of the Year Award nomination form

This award recognizes a student organization or group for its exceptional creativity, planning, and execution of a University program. Criteria upon which decisions are based include appeal to a broad cross-section of the University community, originality, and participation of members of the organization during all phases of the effort.

• The program may have been held campus or in the community.
• The program or community service must have been organized and implemented by the organization, and the primary components of the event must not be provided by an outside agency.
• The organization may not have received this award in the past two years for the same program (i.e. an annual event/philanthropy).

Complete the Excellence in Programming Award nomination form

The purpose of this award is to recognize an outstanding organization for their involvement in community service during the current academic year. The service should have contributed to the Lander, Greenwood and global community.

• The student organization must volunteer both on and off campus.
• The organization must have volunteered community service hours and/or raised funds.
• The type and quality of service, as well as the number of hours and money raised, will be reviewed based on the community service and fundraising forms submitted to the Office of Student Activities.
• Nominees will be asked to submit documentation (i.e. money raised, volunteer hours completed, letters from charities, receipts from agencies, publicity) to verify community service.
• The mission or purpose of the organization cannot be community-service oriented.
• The organization may not have received this award in the past two years.

This award recognizes the first year (freshman or transfer) students who have been actively involved in contributing time and energy to learning leadership and contribution to the Lander community. The number of awards given is dependent on the applicant pool. All nominees should be in good standing with the university.

Complete the New Student Leader Award nomination form

This award recognizes the unique role of transfer students to the campus community and is given to a student who transferred with sophomore standing or above and has completed a full year of coursework at Lander. The recipient will have demonstrated a quick, successful, seamless transition to the institution and will have taken full advantage of his or her time spent at Lander University.

This award recognizes a graduate level student, who has been actively involved in contributions to the greater Lander community through service, leadership, and/or programming, all the while keeping high academic standards. The recipient will have demonstrated a quick, successful, and seamless transition to the institution at the graduate level and will have taken full advantage of his or her time spent at Lander University. This student can also be a graduate assistant for the university.

This award recognizes a member of Campus Activities Board who has been actively involved in contributing time and energy to exemplifying student leadership and engaging the Lander community.

This award recognizes a member of the Student Government Association who has been actively involved in contributing time and energy to representing the student voice, fostering student leadership, promoting shared governance, safeguard student rights, and strengthening campus community.
