As your employer, The Affordable Care Act requires Lander University to provide written notice to all part time and full time employees regarding health coverage options through the new Health Insurance Marketplace (www.HealthCare.gov) regardless of your currently eligibility for health insurance.

The New Health Insurance Marketplace (www.HealthCare.gov) provides a description of insurance options available under the new Marketplace exchange. Since S.C. is not offering a state exchange, residents of S.C. may use the federally sponsored Marketplace.

What does this mean to me?

  1. If you are currently a full time employee and enrolled in Lander's state health plan through the SC Public Employee Benefits Authority (PEBA) and satisfied with your coverage, NO OTHER OPTION IS NEEDED.
  2. If you are currently not insured, but ELIGIBLE for Lander's state health plan, contact London Thomas in Human Resources for open enrollment information.
  3. If you are NOT insured though Lander's state health plan, NOT on another plan, AND NOT eligible for enrollment in Lander's state health plan, you may want to consider your options for health coverage through the new Health Insurance Marketplace at www.HealthCare.gov.

Beginning, January 1, 2014 The Affordable Care Act requires all individuals to have health insurance in 2014 or pay a special tax for failure to obtain health insurance.

Therefore, it is critical that you review your personal situation regarding health coverage. Information regarding this can be found at www.HealthCare.gov (Click on: Individuals and Families/Most Popular/What if someone doesn't have coverage?). Health coverage may be maintained through your employer, your spouse's employer, public programs such as Medicare or Medicaid, or an individual health plan such as those available through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

While there are still many unanswered questions regarding the Affordable Care Act, it is our sincere desire to communicate and share, to the best of our abilities, the limited information we have available regarding this implementation. Hopefully, most of your questions will be answered in the attached documents:

  1. Things to Think About When Choosing A Health Plan
  2. Protect Yourself From Fraud in the Health insurance Marketplace
