The Teacher Cadet Program was piloted in four South Carolina high schools in 1985-86. Today, the program includes approximately 170 South Carolina high Schools serving an average of 2,700 juniors and seniors. Teacher Cadet is a dual credit/A.P. weighted course that is taught for a minimum of one class period for a year or the equivalent of that time in contact hours.
Lander University has served as a college partner to the Teacher Cadet classes since 1999. In addition to their high school Teacher Cadet class, students are enrolled at Lander University and receive 3 hours of college credit.
Dr. Tamara Pack, Teacher Cadet Coordinator, visits each of the Teacher Cadet classes during the year. Students also attend Lander Teacher Cadet Day each fall semester. Students observe Lander classes, talk with professors, and tour the campus. The Admissions and Financial Aid offices are also on hand to answer questions.
