The M.S. in Exercise Science degree equips professionals in physical education, sport, fitness, health and wellness, and health care to expand their understanding of the field of exercise science in one of two areas of concentration: Sport Performance & Rehabilitation or Clinical Exercise Physiology.
The overall program has three student learning outcomes across all areas of emphases:
- Students will apply scientific and theoretical concepts in the course sequence offered in the Program, deepening their understanding of the discipline of Exercise Science.
- Students will demonstrate analytical thinking while interpreting, evaluating and reporting published research and design, conduct and analyze their own research study(ies).
- Students will exhibit expertise in principles and techniques along with the current technologies/methods used in the assessment of physical fitness and health.
Admissions Requirements
Admissions requirements for the Master's in Exercise Science degree include:
- B.A. or B.S. from an accredited institution
- Completion of Anatomy and Physiology I and II (or 1 Anatomy Course and 1 Physiology Course) this should total 8 hours with two courses and labs
- Official transcripts of all work must be submitted
- Please note students can only start the program in the Fall, some can start in the Spring decided on a case-by-case basis
Concentrations
Sport Performance & Rehabilitation Concentration
The Sport Performance and Rehabilitation concentration provides trained professionals to work as strength and conditioning coaches, rehabilitation specialists, and personal trainers. Students in this concentration are well-prepared for the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam.
Clinical Exercise Physiology Concentration
The Clinical Exercise Physiology concentration prepares students for careers in exercise physiology, kinesiology, cardiac rehab, and physiotherapy.
