Lander University is committed to preparing special educators to serve in classrooms throughout the state of South Carolina. MAT candidates complete innovative online coursework to prepare for field and clinical experiences in their local school districts. The program of study prepares candidates to earn initial certification in South Carolina in the area of Multicategorical Special Education. Graduates will be prepared to work with students in grades PK-12.
The MAT in Special Education is designed to allow students to earn both a master’s degree and their initial certification as a special educator, with courses beginning exclusively during the summer, coursework completed online and clinical placements completed in their local school districts. The program is built on a foundation of specialized content courses, addressing the competencies for teaching students with mild to moderate disabilities. These courses provide the needed background for multi-categorical certification.
Admissions Requirements
Admissions requirements for the Master's in Education, Special Education include:
- B.A. or B.S. from an accredited institution
- 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA from BA/BS
- Official transcripts of all work must be submitted
